Rhinoceros project

This is a collaborative drawing project I have been involved with. Artist Janis Bowley initiated this project inspired by Durer's drawing of a Rhinoceros made purely from second hand accounts. The Rhino project takes this idea and translates this into collaborators describing a room to each other which they have never seen, each then makes a drawing of the described room. This is my interpretation of Rosemary Robinson's room, a shipping container in a field.
I have greatly enjoyed this project and felt the connection drawing gives you to place and people. As I drew the room I felt I was revealing layers of place and in a funny sort of way connecting with my collaborator too.

drawing together

Hello! this blog will aim to navigate a course around my drawing practice. In other words draw together the various strands and ideas within the work I am doing, and maybe generate some new ones too.

At the moment I am walking and drawing down a lane near my home. It is handy because it is close to home and on my route once I have dropped off my daughter to school. It fits in with my resolution to weave life and art together more.

The drawings are in a small log book and on 'paths' of muslin backed rice paper. The log book is a diary-like collection of entries and the 'paths' represent the feel of one visit.

The drawings are an exploration of returning to a familiar place, and what effect does this have on the drawings I make?

I find I have to approach the lane fresh each visit. If I do this I notice things more.
